Induction Seminar for new teachers (includes video link)
Thirty one teachers who have begun teaching in PBST schools during the last three years gathered for an induction seminar at Mardyke House on Wednesday 14th December. In the relatively short period of time available, a very wide variety of topics was explored, providing the participants with an practical insight into the Presentation ethos in education. The group was welcomed to the seminar by PBST Chairman, Jack O’Sullivan, and by CEO, Michael Sexton. Jack explained the role of the PBST in the schools and was followed by Brother Andrew Hickey who addressed the teachers on the Presentation tradition – past, present and future. Michael Sexton then explored what the PBST Charter has to say to the newly-appointed teacher while Jemma Halpin spoke about the work of the Presentation Brothers Youth Ministry. After the break, teachers Finbarr Hurley, Annette Walsh and Anne Cleary, and past-pupils David Minehane and Alan Macilwraith gave presentations on transforming the ideal into a reality where the Presentation ethos is given expression through projects that really make a difference in young people’s lives. There was also a bit of fun along the way and a few lucky participants got to take a few early Christmas gifts home in their bags! Given that the teachers were attending after a long day’s work at the end of a long term, the enthusiasm and positivity of the new teachers was truly inspirational. The future is in safe hands!
